Signed by Pablo Picasso. Lysistrata is an ancient Greek comedy by Aristophanes, first performed in 411 BCE. It depicts a humorous yet poignant account of women taking collective action to end the ongoing war between Greek city-states, particularly Athens and Sparta. The play’s central premise involves Lysistrata convincing the women of Greece to abstain from sex and seize the Athenian treasury, thereby forcing the men to negotiate peace.
First edition of this translation. Illustrated and signed by Pablo Picasso with six original etchings in black, and 30 lithographs. 30 x 24 cm. This is copy number 806 of 1500 copies.
