A fine production of French poet, novelist, and dramatist Victor Hugo’s (1802-1885) masterpiece, a historical novel first published in 1862; “Les Miserables” is considered the greatest novel of the nineteenth-century, and is here given beautiful new trappings, and a choice selection of illustrations. Along with the novel is a copy of the essay “The Divine Stenographer: Truth and Narration in Les Miserables” by Mario Vargas Llosa, presented in a separate chapbook by the publisher.
