A distinguished military officer, John Luard served both as a Lieutenant at Waterloo and as a Captain at Bhurtpore in 1825. Author of History of the Dress of the British Soldier, Luard was considered one of the most talented of the many amateur artists who depicted India.

First Edition. (37 x 27cm) Hand-colored Lithographic title and 60 hand-colored lithographed plates.
Binding: Contemporary red calf gilt, spine gilt in compartments with gild edges.
Condition: Foxing on the initial pages and sporadic foxing on the rest. A good copy.
