The 20 fine hand-coloured lithographic plates, illustrate Indian modes of transport, crafts, and occupations. John Gantz was a draughtsman and architect employed by the East India Company and had two sons, Justinian (b. 1802) and Julius (b. 1816). By 1827 he had set up the first lithographic press in Madras, one of the first such presses in India.

18 of 20 original hand-coloured lithographic plates on card mounts. (35 x 45cm with mount). 

Binding: Loose as issued, each plate mounted on paper within ink ruled frames, with printed labels mounted on verso; modern blue cloth solander box with black leather gilded title ticket pasted on the front board and black leather spine with gilt text and 5 raised bands.

Condition: Each mount is covered with a protective layer of cellophane. The box is sturdy & Strong to keep the prints safe. Prints are free from any foxing. In excellent condition.
