Plate thirty nine from ‘Picturesque Scenery in the Kingdom of Mysore’ by James Hunter (d.1792). This aquatint is based on a picture by Hunter, and shows a rest house next to a tank at Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu. Today, Kanchipuram is considered one of India’s most sacred Hindu cities on account of its large number of temples. It is also famous for its expert silk weavers.
