Fine original hand-coloured aquatint from Captain Robert Melville Grindlay’s celebrated Scenery, Costumes and Architecture, chiefly on the Western Side of India. Drawn by William Westall and engraved by Theodore Fielding, the composition depicts the dramatic mountain scenery of Mount Abu with its tranquil lake, towering granite cliffs, cascading waterfall and luxuriant woodland. Published by Rudolph Ackermann as part of one of the finest illustrated works on western India, the print exemplifies the romantic landscape tradition while preserving an important early topographical record of one of India’s most celebrated hill regions. A particularly desirable scenic plate from Grindlay’s masterpiece.
