Engraved by Edward Challis after a sketch by Captain Charles Arthur, the composition presents a magnificent panoramic view of the fortified city of Tonk rising dramatically above the plains of Rajputana. Combining picturesque landscape with precise architectural detail, the print represents one of the earliest published views of this important princely state and ranks among the finest topographical plates from Grindlay’s monumental work.
