ATKINSON, Captain George Francklin

Fine original hand-coloured lithograph by Edmund Walker after Captain George Francklin Atkinson, depicting the celebrated charge of Hodson’s Horse against rebel cavalry near Rohtak during the Indian Rebellion of 1857. Plate No. 14 from The Campaign in India 1857–58, one of the finest illustrated contemporary accounts of the Mutiny. Richly coloured and finely printed by Day & Son, Lithographers to the Queen, the composition vividly captures the speed and violence of cavalry combat while preserving valuable details of uniforms, equipment, and tactics that Atkinson observed firsthand during the campaign.
