Emily Eden
The head office servants of the Governor-General of India
Year: 1844
₹100,000
Emily Eden was as interested in sketching the various servants and attendants surrounding the kings and princes she met in India as she was in drawing the royals themselves. The two men shown in this print are Dhulloo and Dedar Khan. Eden identified them as the head men (jemadars) of the office servants (chaprassis) working for her brother, Lord Auckland, who served as Governor-General of India from 1836 to 1842.
