The twenty-two plates here, drawn on stone by the British lithographer John Corbet Anderson after Francis’s illustrations sketched from life, depict India’s various peoples, views, activities, landscapes, architecture, animals, and even its insects. Francis captured daily life in mid-nineteenth-century India, from its markets to its mills and from temple to town.

Binding: Half Bound with Marble Boards. Raised bands with gillt on spine.
Condition: A water stain spot on the title page and the first Plate. Rest all pages are clean. Binding is tight and excellent.
