ATKINSON, Captain George Francklin

Rare original publisher’s sheet comprising two hand-coloured lithographs from The Campaign in India 1857–58. The first depicts rebel sepoys preparing within an entrenched position during the Indian Rebellion, while the second records British Prize Agents supervising the recovery of hidden treasure following the capture of Delhi. Drawn from the firsthand observations of Captain George Francklin Atkinson and printed by Day & Son, Lithographers to the Queen, these plates document both the military and administrative dimensions of the conflict. Their combination of historical significance, documentary precision and fine Victorian colour printing makes them among the most compelling images in Atkinson’s celebrated series.
