A rare original publisher’s sheet comprising two hand-coloured lithographs from The Campaign in India 1857–58. The first depicts British officers racing by native carriage to join the field force following the outbreak of the Indian Rebellion, while the second presents an intimate view of everyday life within a British military encampment, complete with officers, attendants, horses and tents. Drawn from Captain George Francklin Atkinson’s firsthand experience with the Bengal Engineers and beautifully printed by Day & Son, Lithographers to the Queen, these plates combine documentary accuracy with exceptional artistic refinement and constitute an important visual record of the logistics and daily life of the British Army during the Indian Rebellion.
